Rachita Ram – Her Real Name, Family, Career, Awards, Photos And More

Rachita Ram is the screen name of the Indian actress Bindhiya Ram. Rachita mainly acts in Kannada language films. Earlier she also used to act on television. In fact just before her entry into the Kannada film industry Rachita Ram played a role in ‘Arasi’, a television soap opera in Kannada.

Rachita’s Family

Known as the ‘dimple queen’ of Kannada film industry or sandalwood, Rachita was born on October 03, in the year 1990. She was born in Bangalore city, the capital of Karnataka. Although born in Karnataka, her family roots trace back to Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh.

She hails from a family of artists. Her father Ram is a known ‘Bharatanatyam’ dancer and has given more than 500 performances on various platforms. Rachita Ram’s elder sister Nitya Ram too is an actress. She has acted in several Kannada and Tamil serials on the small screen in the lead roles.

Rachita Ram Career, Movies and Awards

Rachita herself is a trained Kathak and Bharatanatyam dancer who has given more than 50 dance performances on various occasions. She made the entry onto the small screen through a Kannada television soap. The serial was ‘Benkiyalli Aralida Hoovu’ where her elder sister Nitya Ram was playing a lead role.

Later on, she got a chance to work in a television serial named ‘Arasi’ which was being telecasted on the Zee Kannada Network. This time it was a role in the lead.

Rachita Ram’s film debut was through the Kannada film ‘Bulbul’ which was released in the year 2013. The film was directed by M.D.Shridhar and Rachita played the role of Kaveri opposite ‘Darshan’, a Kannada superstar.

There were 200 other girls who were auditioning for the same role, but Rachita came out a winner in the end. Rachita’s first movie ‘Bulbul’ was a commercial success. In fact, this movie is a remake of the Telugu film Darling. Some scenes in the movie are also inspired by the American romantic comedy ’50 First Dates’.

Based on Rachita’s performance in the movie Bulbul, The Times of India wrote, “A new star is born in Sandalwood. Rachita Ram has presented an excellent performance in her first movie” and added, “Rachita Ram is amazing with her dialogue delivery, body language, and excellent expressions.

Rachita was nominated twice for her performance in this movie, once for the Filmfare Award for Best Actress – Kannada and the second for SIIMA Award for Best Debutant – Female – Kannada.

After the success of her first film, Rachita Ram acted in the Kannada movie ‘Dil Rangeela’ in the year 2014. She shared the screen with the Golden Star Ganesh in this film. Her performance in this film was critically acclaimed and the Deccan Herald expressed it in the following words. “Rachita delivers a seasoned performance”.

The same year Rachita’s third movie ‘Ambareesha’ was released. Sadly the movie failed in the box office and Rachita’s performance was questioned by some critics in the film industry. But Rachita was not the one to be stopped. She came back with a bang by giving a sweeping performance in the Kannada movie ‘Ranna’.

She played the role of ‘Rukmini’ opposite the popular Kannada star Sudeep. Rachita Ram won two awards for her performance in the movie. They were SIIMA Award for Best Actress – Kannada and the
Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actress – Kannada.

This performance was followed by another blockbuster performance in the film ‘Rathavara’. The movie was directed by Chandrashekar Bandiyappa and Rachita played the role of Navami, opposite Sriimurali, who played a gangster in the movie and of course her love interest. About her performance, The Times of India wrote, “Rachita Ram looks pretty and has acted every bit the cutesy girl-next-door that is required of her”.

Why Was Her Name Changed to Rachita Ram from Bindiya Ram

When Rachita entered the Kannada film industry, there was already a popular actress named Bindiya who had given stunning performances in blockbuster films like ‘Halli Meshtru’ and ‘Raayaru Bandaru Maavana Manege’. So to avoid any future confusions among the two actress names, Bindiya Ram was given the screen name of Rachita Ram.

Rachita acted in many other films than the ones mentioned above. Some of the important ones are as follows.

  • Played Anjali in the movie Chakravyuha opposite Puneeth Rajkumar.
  • Guest appearance in the movie Jaggu Dada.
  • Played Radhe in the movie Mukunda Murari. The film also featured Upendra and Sudeep. This was Rachita’s cameo appearance.
  • Played ‘Puttalakshmi’ in the film Pushpaka Vimana. This was Ramesh Arvind’s 100th Kannada film.
  • Played Gowri in the movie ‘Bharjari’ opposite Dhruva Sarja.
  • Played Priya in Johnny Johnny Yes Papa.
  • Played the role of Nandini in the film Ayogya released in 2018. Satish Ninasam shared the screen with her in this movie which won Rachita Ram the Zee Kannada Hemmeya Kannadiga Award for Best Actress and two other nominations.
  • Rachita played the role of Geetha in the movie Seetharama Kalyana opposite Nikhil Kumar, the som of Karnataka Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy and the grandson of Ex. Indian Prime Minister H.D.Devegowda. The movie was produced by Anitha Kumaraswamy the mother of Nikhil Kumar.
  • Rachita Ram once again shared the screen with Puneeth Rajkumar in the movie Natasaarvabhowma. This movie was released in 2019. This Kannada film also had Anupama Parameswaran a Malayalam film actress.

Few of her much anticipated, upcoming films are ‘Bharaate’ and ‘Rustum’ which are both going to be released in the year 2019.

Rachita Ram has also acted in documentaries and has judged TV shows, apart from acting in the movie. Right now, she is one of the top actresses in the Kannada film industry or sandalwood.
